Hasbro: G.I. Joe – 25th Anniversary
Yo Joe
Resolute Boxed Set

G.I. Joe Pitt Stop:
By Vince Zannelli
To accompany the late-2008 G.I. Joe Resoulte wave of 3 3/4" single-carded action figures, Hasbro released a G.I. Joe Resolute boxed 5-pack in January of 2009. The Resolute cartoon is designed to bridge the gap between the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero storyline that fans have grown accustomed to over the past 27 years, and the G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra live action film which will be released to theaters worldwide in August of 2009.

Cobra Trooper
This boxed version of the Resolute Cobra Trooper (red) is a complete repaint of the single-carded Resolute Cobra Trooper (blue) and is distinguished from the Resolute Cobra Officer by the lack of silver rank insignia on the figure's helmet. This troop builder comes with an odd assortment of accessories, since he is the first modern era (post-anniversary) G.I. Joe figure to include a spring loaded mountable missile launcher with 2 missiles. This exact launcher has already been seen packaged with figures from the upcoming G.I. Joe 3 3/4" Rise of Cobra movie figure assortment. In addition to the launcher, the Cobra Trooper comes with a red helmet and vest, futuristic black and silver machine gun, a grenade launcher, backpack, and stand.

Cobra Commander
Using the head and body of the single-carded Resolute Cobra Commander from 2008, the boxed set Resolute Cobra Commander sports a new red and black paint application which matches the other Cobra legions included in this 5-pack. The hands however, come from previous Cobra Commander figures from the modern era (since 2007). His accessories include a pair of black pistols (which are similar in sculpt to Destro's classic blaster), removable helmet and cowl, saber, and stand. Of particular note is the sculpted cowl, which has proven unpopular among G.I. Joe purists as it restricts the figure's poseability. Many prefer it to be cloth or at least body-length to make it accurate to the older cartoon version of Cobra Commander. It still remains to be seen how the character will appear in the Resolute series, as very little has been revealed about him in the months preceding the release of the webisodes.

Cobra Officer
The Resolute Cobra Officer is a reissue of the single-carded Resolute Cobra Trooper (red), and is distinguished from the Resolute Cobra Trooper by the silver rank insignia on the figure's helmet. These are the elite Cobra Infantry forces in the Resolute storyline. They include the exact same accessories as the Resolute Cobra Trooper, but do not include the spring loaded mountable missile launcher. The Cobra Officer comes with a red helmet and vest, futuristic black and silver machine gun, a grenade launcher, backpack, and stand.

B.A.T.
These fan favorite troop builders have been mechanical menaces to the Joe team for quite a few years. The Resolute version of the classic Cobra B.A.T. utilizes the same mold as the 2008 modern era B.A.T. and offers the same accessories as its single-carded counterpart. The maroon and silver repaint is a departure from the classic yellow and black look, but blends well with the other Cobra Resolute figures in the boxed 5-pack. Resolute B.A.T. accessories include a gun metal gray storage backpack, 5 forearm attachments (2 hands, a flamethrower, machine gun, and a claw), a handgun, and stand.

Duke
This is the only figure in the Resolute 5-pack to contain newly sculpted body parts. This version of Duke borrows heavily from the single-carded Resolute figure, but sports a new mid-section and waist to appear as if he is prepared for flight via his jetpack. He has also received a new paint job to distinguish him from the Cobra figures included with this set. Duke gets the lion's share of accessories: a flight helmet, jetpack with removable wings, a futuristic silver and black machine gun, a belt/waist accessory pack, knife, handgun, and stand. This figure was the sleeper of the Resolute boxed set, since he has turned out to be (arguably) one of the best Duke figures made in the modern era in terms of sculpt, paint application, and accessories.
