Toy Fair Rumors
Posted by Curto on February 21, 2007 at 07:31 PM CST:
No Venom For You!
Despite being around the internet for months now, Sony was still trying to crack down on Spider-Man 3's new villain Venom. Several companies were contacted during Toy Fair to not show anything regarding the drooling evildoer's likeness. Which is rather odd, because it's not a secret these days.

Legion of Super-Heroes
With the success of other recent DC Comics cartoon shows, such at Justice League and The Batman, will there be a toy line based on the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series? The folks at Mattel are eager to do it, but they are waiting to see how the series does in the ratings first. Wondering about why Clark Kent is called "Superman" in the series, and not "Superboy" (as he should be)? Most likely it has to do with the name recognition of Superman (he DID just have a major motion picture, after all), but it might have something to do with DC's plans for the Superboy character in the comics...

Justice League In Trouble?
It seems that the JLU line is tanking, and Mattel is planning to refocus the line in a last ditch attempt to save it. I guess the cancellation of the series has had a negative effect...or perhaps it's the all-too-often repackaging of the core characters in EVERY wave!

The Golden Compass
Two figures for the main characters could run into delays, because a couple of the actors are VERY concerned about their action figure likeness, right down to the hairstyle!

Battlestar Galactica
While there have been several vehicles in Hasbro's Titanium Series line, don't expect a line of action figures anytime soon. At least not from Hasbro...

Gentle Giant Grows
You may have seen our news on the Gentle Giant Studios expansion today, but there was also buzz that they picked up a major-major license to do their first series of real action figures in varying scales (and not distributed through Diamond). Seems that GGS is moving into full toy company territory: GG dolls and figures will be on shelves before next Toy Fair.

Zizzle Will Fizzle?
Zizzle was a no show at Toy Fair, and word has it that it's because they're in heavy talks to be bought out! Who wants to get their hands on that lucrative Pirates of the Caribbean line? Mattel? Gentle Giant? GG did 90% of the sculpting, so...

Sideshow 6" Figures?
Now what's the totally unqualified buzz about Sideshow creating some smaller scale (6") figures (not necessarily SW)? A midprice would be excellent! Stay tuned!

Are these toys on the list?
Guess which popular TV series will be getting its own line of action figures? The preliminary deal was just signed at Toy Fair in an after-hours meeting, and the toys won't be out until at least 2008, but we hear that it won't be long before we'll all be able to "save the cheerleader and save the world".
