A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989)
Director: Stephen Hopkins
Writer: Story: John Skipp, Craig Spector, Leslie Bohem; Screenplay: Leslie Bohem

Dream Warrior Alice (Lisa Wilcox) is having a kid, and just guess who wants in on it? The incorrigible Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) that’s who. A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child gives us lots of lunatics (at least 100), a nun, a creepy kid (doesn’t he belong in a corn field somewhere?), and fancy special effects. Penned by “splatterpunks,” Skip and Spector; this installment offers lots of new visuals, but never really rises above it’s material to become something truly memorable --- use your fast-forward button on this one kids, you’ll thank me.

Lately, Alice has been dreaming of a nun named Amanda (Beatrice Boepple) and a run down asylum. See, back in the day, asylum inmates raped Amanda who later gave birth to a little bucket of blood that would one day spawn endless sequels and merch; such as the figure presented below. Now, Alice is not amused by these visions of Fredrick dancing around in her head and frantically calls her boyfriend, Dan (Danny Hassel) who races to her rescue only to fall prey to Freddy in a scene straight out of Tetsuo: the Iron Man. Dan dreams he fuses with his bike; Dan gets smacked by truck in real life. Just goes to show you the lengths of which Freddy will go to be man of the house, but I am getting ahead of myself…

Alice then finds she’s pregnant and her friends start dying in their sleep. Supermodel gal pal Greta (Erika Anderson) chokes to death after she dreams of being force-fed her innards by chef Freddy. Marks gets it in all black white and red as he is shredded in comic book form before biting the bloody dust in real life.

Alice also keeps having eerie encounters with this kid Jacob (Whitby Hertford) whom she later finds out is her future son. The very son Freddy has been feeding souls to and has been using to get at her friends. Yvonne (Kelly Joe Minter) to the rescue. She preps Alice to go into the dreamscape to stop Freddy and save her kid. And so the show down begins as Jacob fights Freddy using the powers he gave him. Defeated, Freddy then morphs into his mutant baby form, which super nun Amanda reintegrates back into her body. Alice and her child are free, but for how long? And do we care? Stay tuned for Nightmare on Elm Street VI: The Search for More Money.

“One, two, Freddy’s coming for you…”
