Possibly one of the most interesting stories in the X-Men: The Movie action figure collection, the Jean Grey figure features three very unique variations. The earliest version of the figure had her hair down both literally and metaphorically, featuring a rather revealing ‘unzipped’ top showing off a lot of cleavage, and a very obvious lack of under garments. Toy Biz was quick to alter the revealed breasts with a spray op alteration to create a black bustier. At the same time, they resculpted Jean’s hair for a more screen-accurate ponytail look. There are no documented examples with hair down and a bustier or ponytail with exposed chest. Taking the variations further, Toy Biz resculpted the chest to create a new ‘zipped up’ top. This variation was available only with the ponytail.
Produced to be available during the theatrical release of the feature film, the X-Men: the Movie action figure collection by Toy Biz dominated the toy shelves in 2000.
