Bounding off of the success of 3 3/4" comic book multi-packs from the early 2000s, Hasbro released a number of comic book 3 3/4" 2-packs beginning in 2008 and are still currently being released. While very few newly sculpted pieces were incorporated in the production of the packs, they did feature a variety of retooled and repainted figures and accessories as well as a high-quality reprint of either a modern or classic G.I. Joe comic. Later in the line, newly written comics created exclusively for these 2-packs were penned by G.I. Joe legend Lary Hama and featured covers and interior art by renown industry professionals.
A rather primitive looking Duke figure that seems better suited for the vintage 1982-83 wave of figures, this version of the First Sergeant was created using the Snake Eyes body from the 2007 25th anniversary boxed G.I. Joe 5-pack and reuses an older Duke head. It is a faithful representation of what Duke would have looked like had he been a part of the initial straight-arm release of 9-back figures.
As the second-ever version of Red Star, this rendition is a vast improvement over the 1991 Oktober Guard leader. Red Star's body was made using retooled molds of previously released 2007 25th anniversary Real American Hero parts, except for his head which is exclusive to this release.
