First revealed via YouTube! by Matty Collector in October 2014, Spirit of Grayskull was announced as the 2015 chase figure available at different times throughout the year on the Matty Collector website. The concept is based on the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con Spirit of Grayskull action figure, of which only two pieces were produced cast in clear blue plastic using the King Grayskull buck. One was made available via charity auction at the Mattel '08 Dream Halloween event, and the other won by a lucky fan in a raffle at the Mattel booth during SDCC 2008.

The '08 figure featured a rare translucent blue spirit effect, but the 2015 chase version is a yellow-green color, not cast in clear plastics, but instead cast in an opaque mold that glows-in-the-dark as an added bonus feature. His weapons are the same as the 2008 King Grayskull figure, consisting of an axe, shield, and a sword, all cast in the same glow-in-the-dark key lime colored plastic that the Spirit of Grayskull figure was made from.
