2012 San Diego Comic-Con: Kotobukiya's Booth

DC Collectibles

Kotobukiya had a lot of very cool new DC products on display in their 2012 SDCC booth including the first three pieces in their New 52 ARTFX+ statue collection. At quick glance you will notice the grey Wonder Woman statue between the fully painted Superman and Green Lantern statues. Despite the painted lips and eyes, you are not looking at a special variation. The released version will also be fully painted. The grey one on display is meant only to show off the excellent sculpt. Kotobukiya intends to release the full team, with Batman or Flash being revealed next, followed by Aquaman, and then Cyborg.

Behind these three and to the left is the Korejanai Robot Justice League collection. This blind box collection will feature Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash in standard colours and chase metallic finishes. Korejanai Robots, historically speaking, are fake versions of popular Japanese robot toys. So when a Japanese kid was given a fake robot toy they would call it 'Korejanai'. Kotobukiya's creative team have taken the concept to a great conclusion by producing a series of licensed figures in a style you would never see at your favourite retailers. As of now, this one wave is the only one planned, but we think that'll change if these become as popular as we think they will.

Though not previously announced, their Harley Quinn Bishoujo statue will come with two interchangeable face plates so you can choose between an opaque white face and a traditional style flesh-toned face made out of an intrinsic plastic. To keep all the pieces together, there is a special compartment on the underside of the base that stores the unused face. Both face places fit into the head sculpt and are secured with magnets.

The Dark Knight Returns ARTFX statue is mind blowing! A true work of art and a must have for both Frank Miller and Batman fans. The base is semi-translucent to mimic the water they were fighting in during their climatic final battle. At every angle, this looks like Miler's art in every way.

Through a placard on the same shelf they revealed the upcoming Killing Joke Joker statue. This iconic piece will easily rival the Dark Knight Returns statue as the most icon piece in their DC collection!

Marvel Collectibles

The Venom statue shown is still a work in progress, and the final version will see alterations done to the head. More on this as information becomes available.

Eagle-eyed readers may notice the base on Hawkeye is a lighter grey compared to the other Classic Avengers. kotobukiya is aware of this and are working to correct the variance, but that statue may be too far through the production to alter.

Beyond that, their display also showed off the awesome Daredevil and Cyclops statues.

Other Announcements

Through a series of placards displayed on different shelves, Kotobukiya has announced the production of two new Bishoujo statues based on Agent G from Men In Black and Chun-Li from Street Fighter. Also announced ARTFX statues based on Mass Effect's Commander Shepard and Dead Space's Isaac Clarke.
