The Future Of Collecting Indiana Jones: A Round-Up Report
Posted by Curto on February 10, 2008 at 11:00 PM CST:
Now that we've taken a look at the past and present of Indiana Jones collectibles, it's time to take a look at what the future will bring!

HASBRO
Hasbro kicked off the Indy-excitement at last year's Comic-Con with a special sneak preview photo op with a life-sized Ark of the Covenant.

This was followed up a few days later with the first look at the upcoming action figures, Adventure Heroes, and 12" Figures that will be released for the returning franchise.

But let's hear it from Hasbro themselves, shall we? (Press release courtesy of Hasbro UK):

Adventure returns in 2008 as whip-cracking hero Indiana Jones returns to the big screen in INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. And Hasbro will be in on the fun with an all-new, exciting range of toys based on both the new movie and the classic adventures that follow the exploits of the daring Dr Jones.

The new INDIANA JONES toy range includes a highly anticipated collection of fantastic action figures, vehicles and role play toys based on some of the most legendary quests of the world?s most famous (and daring) archaeologist. The range will also feature the nefarious villains that come between Indy and his artefacts.

Fans of every age will be thrilled to re-enact some of their favourite movie scenes with the amazing collection of highly detailed action figures, including Indy, Sallah, and the infamous Cairo Swordsman. Each comes with its own unique styling and accessories and includes a special hidden relic!

What?s more, finally young adventurers in the making can play with one of Indy?s most iconic accessories. They?ll step into Indy?s shoes and become the ultimate Adventure Hero with the awesome Electronic Sound FX Whip. This iconic whip plays the instantly recognizable Raiders March theme tune and features awesome whip-cracking sounds, just like the real thing! It?s made of soft foam to be completely safe ? and completely fun!

There will also be a great range of iconic vehicles with cool accessories to replicate some of the best action scenes from INDIANA JONES? most exhilarating expeditions!

So far, we've seen that the first wave of figures will focus on characters from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the second wave features some new characters from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but since this is an ongoing line, expect to see all of the movies incorporated here, so Temple of Doom fans, take heart! You will not be forgotten!

But it's not just action figures we're expecting to see....plans call for other Hasbro toy lines get in on the action, like the Titanium Series & Mighty Muggs, plus a series of deluxe figures, vehicles, playsets, and role-playing toys!

The figures we have seen so far include kid-oriented "action features" for whip-cracking, quick-drawing action, much like the vintage Kenner line we've been featuring this past week in our Photo Archive updates. But fans of Super-Articulated figures need not worry, as we're anticipating seeing an SA Indy from a future wave, loaded with accessories!

The first wave of toys is expected in stores May 1st, 2008.
