The Hasbro Marvel Comic-Con Panel Report
Published by Chris on July 14, 2012 at 11:43 PM CST:

The panel featured Adam Biehl, Jesse Falcon, Dwight Stall, and Kristin Hamilton, who ran through a short presentation and then rolled right into a Q&A.

Highlights from the presentation include:

- A "thank-you" video to the fans, featuring tons of fans in Marvel costumes from various conventions.

- Overview of SDCC exclusives such as the Uncanny X-Force pack, Masters of Evil 3-pack, and the monsterous SHIELD Super Helicarrier.

- Quick look at a motorized web-shooting Spidey we'll be getting this August.

- A sneak peak at 6" figures from the Ultimate Spider-man line.

- Bonka Zonks will have four different offerings this year: two-pack blind packs, Face Cases 4-pack, Headquarters collector case, and a playset. Lots of fan favorites in this litte line of 102 characters, including the Jackal, Whirlwind, Grim reaper, and Dormammu (first time we've seen these characters from Hasbro).

Marvel Universe

- The 2012 Digital Comic Exclusive is Old Man Logan with a bonus Hulkling!

- We saw an Uncanny X-Men Team Pack featuring Colossus/Juggarnaught, Emma Frost, and Cyclops (who was not shown as he's still in development).

- Series 3 Wave 3 will include Angel, Puck with Snowbird, Nighthawk, Prof X, and more.

Marvel Legends

- Relaunch! 3 waves for this year.

- Wave 3 Epic Heroes: Deadpool (and X-Force costume version), US Agent (first time in the line), Neo Classic Iron Man (originally from the Iron Man line, but never released), Punisher, Classic Blade, Mystique and Moonstar, and Dr. Doom (both updated white look and Classic look).

- 2013 is the year of the mini build-a-figure. Each wave for 2013 will have one.

- Wave One: the "Hit Monkey Wave". Hit Monkey is the mini build-a-figure, marking the first time he's ever been in action figure form. He'll also sport lots of articulation. The wave will include the Savage She-Hulk and Red She-Hulk (featuring new and improved female base-bodies), Ultimates Captain American, the original X-Force Wolverine (matches the dark Warpath deco), Avengers 2-pack, Guardians of the Galaxy Sentry and Hyperion, Archangel (two looks - classic purple/blue and steel/black).

- Wave 2 Sneak Peak: Jean Grey, Wrecker (retooled to be larger and wider), and Bulldozer (not shown).

- They showed off an all new 6" scale female body, demonstrated with Moonstone.

- Iron Man 3 sneak peak: Micro Muggs, which are small scale Mighty Muggs. Sold in blind bags, they are 2" tall. They also showed part of a new build-a-figure version of Iron Munger.

Q&A:

How do figures get selected for a revision case? They look at sales data, primarily. Also consider the opportunity to pallet-swap.

Are you finishing Alpha Flight (Legends)? They have the list, they are on it.

Why are Bonka Zonks so small? Easier to digest.

Are you planning on making any more big sets? Like the Mansion? They've not looked into for the Marvel Universe line. Too huge for the 6" Legends line. Try making your own playsets!

Can we get a Mark 13 Module Armor Iron Man? A possibility. All those variations are possible. They try to strike a balance with new and old characters.

Are you planning on more articulation (like, articulated toes)? Each joint costs money and everything is on a set budget. The hyper-articulated figures out there are often very expensive. The goal is to be fiscally responsible, particularly with the Legends line, which was difficult to bring back.

Will we certain get a gun-loving raccoon as a micro build-a-figure? Don't bet on that horse.

I'd like more large-scale action figures. How about it? Stat tuned. You might see something next year.

Where is Fing Fang Foom? You showed him last year - what's going on? He's on hold until they sort out what or where they can bring him. Originally planned to be here at Comic-Con this year, but that was scuttled in favor of a more Avenger-theme item (Super Helicarrier).

What headsculpt is under the Mysterio fishbowl? You'll have to wait until you have it in your "grubby little fingers".

Any plans to re-do the early Marvel Legends figures? Definately. They've advanced a lot in the past couple years with better bodies.

Was Marvel Universe held back to focus on the Movie Lines? Yes, they understand that was frustrating. They didn't intentionally hold anything back, but it did happen. As space opens up at retail now, they will start shipping more of the Universe lines. They are coming.

When is the Strife build-a-figure coming? Are you going to be getting back to big build-a-figures? Strife was never intended to be a BAF. However, they are re-sculpting parts of Strife. The focus is on micro right now.
